Social Secretary and events
We are pleased to have a new Social Secretary in post – Linda Searles. Linda is looking forward to organising a number of new events to add to our regular schedule, including a Whist night, and Cocktail and Casino evening, so watch this space!
Please also note that since September we have a new TV package - BT Sport Total, including BT Sport Europe. This means we have access to 38 exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches, live FA Cup, 69 exclusively live Aviva Premier Rugby matches, plus UEFA Champions league and Europa league. Please come along and make the most of it!
Italian Wine Tasting Evening
Alex Lake will be hosting the third of his popular wine-tasting evenings on Saturday 28th November, 7pm – this time with an Italian theme. This will include an Italian meal to accompany the fine wine and patter. Tickets are £20 per head, in advance. There is a sign up list in the clubhouse. If you haven’t been to one before, these are always popular evenings and to be recommended.
Team Tennis and Singles League
There has been a great response to both of our internal winter competitions and John Hall has worked hard putting together the teams for team tennis and leagues for those who have signed up for singles.
The five Team Tennis captains are busy organising their first matches, and more importantly, choosing the name! For those who were in the winning team last year (Baseline Beats), some of you have yet to collect their trophies. Please get in contact with John.
If you entered the singles league, you should have received an email with details of your league. These are also posted up in the clubhouse, together with the rules. There are 8 Men’s/Junior Divisions and 4 Ladies’/Junior Divisions which is the best for some time. The first run is until the end of December, so start arranging your matches!
Mixed 1 day Tournament.
Owing to a disappointing response, the One Day Mixed tournament was cancelled, but it is hoped it will be re-scheduled at a later date.
Visitors Fees
It is still of concern to the committee that a few of our members have invited visitors to play without ensuring payment of the fee. This is impossible for us to police and to avoid the embarrassment of challenging those involved, we ask that our members will not bring others to play, unless they pay the visitors fee or intend to join.
Please note that the visitor’s fee has increased to £5 per visit. Please sign your visitor in to the sign in book hanging in the clubhouse and post the fee into the suggestion box, both near the floodlight token machine. If the clubhouse is locked, the money can be posted in an envelope into the postbox on the clubhouse wall.
Professor Allan Williams
One of our long-standing members recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Allan joined the club in 1966 so next year will be his 50th membership year! He won his first trophy as part of the Men’s 1st team in 1968 and again in 1969 and 1971, when they won their division in the Herts League.
Allan can still be seen playing most Sunday mornings and we wish him continued success!
