Barnet LTC – February 2017 Newsletter

Ballot for Wimbledon Tickets

A final reminder that you have until February 17th to opt in to the BLTC Wimbledon Ballot. This is important for two reasons. Firstly, the club’s allocation of tickets will be based on the number of its members doing this. Secondly, as a club member you will only be eligible to be entered in to our draw, and therefore win tickets, if you have completed the opt in process.

Even if you don’t want Wimbledon tickets yourself, you will be helping your fellow members by opting in. You will need your BTM username and password to sign in.

Any problems, phone LTA on 020 8487 7000

The draw will be made at our Easter Monday American Tournament on 17th April.

Membership Deal

Don’t forget our current membership deal available to new members. Any NEW
member who joins now will have up to 14 month’s membership for the price of 12,
with membership running up to 31st March 2018. Please refer the offer to friends
and family that may be interested.

Defibrillator – information sessions

The club has purchased a defibrillator, which is currently housed in a cabinet in the clubhouse.
AEDs (as they are known) are easy to use, compact, portable and very effective. They are designed to be used by lay persons on anyone experiencing irregular heart rhythms in order to bring them back to a normal rhythm; the machines guide the operator through the process by verbal instructions and visual prompts. They are safe and will not allow a shock to be given unless the heart’s rhythm requires it. Below is a link members may find useful -

Catherine Kenny-Tempest and Jackie Czuprynski will be hosting 2 drop in sessions for anyone
wishing to ask questions or find out more about its use. These will take place on Saturday 18th
February and Sunday 19th February at 12pm.

Whist Night – 25th February

On Saturday 25th February we will be holding another Whist Drive. Last year’s proved to be a
popular evening. This will start at 7.30pm and cost £4 per player. Nibbles provided. For those
already familiar with the game, it will be a progressive format with plenty of prizes along the way! Beginners are welcome too.

Souper Social Tennis and Mini Quiz Evening – 10th March

Rescheduled from January, please join us for a great night of tennis followed by soup, with a mini quiz on sports and general knowledge to round off the evening.
Social tennis and soup will run from 6.30pm to 9pm, with the quiz from 9pm.
If you wish to attend the whole evening it will cost £5 per person (inc soup). If you want to come along and pit your wits only, the mini-quiz is £2 per person (nibbles provided).

Future social events planned include a Pub Night with curry on Saturday 22nd April and A 70s/80s night in May. Watch this space!

This year’s Team Tennis competition continues to be a fascinating battle and the final
victors could be any of the 5 teams. The Cardio-Jacks are currently ahead, despite having
lost more games than anyone else! There is all to play for over the next few weeks.

Our Treasurer, Isabelle Ridgewell, has asked that team captains remember to collect the £5
fee from each player and hand it in, once all monies obtained.

Committee Changes

After just a few months back with us, coach Luke Barker is moving on, having gained a
coaching position at Oakleigh Park Tennis Club. We wish him well! Following the departure
of Luke, Danny Williamson will continue as Men’s Captain, with Aran Mustafa stepping
back on to the committee to replace Luke as joint captain.

Dates for the diary

If you are planning your holidays, please note that this year’s Club Finals are on Saturday 8th
July for both adults and juniors. The “Lofty Lofts” BLTC Junior Open is scheduled for the
week beginning July 24th.
