JUNE 2016 NEWSLETTER
BARNET LTC – JUNE 2016 NEWSLETTER
Ladies’ and Men’s Nights
Our summer club nights are well underway. Both Ladies’ Night on Tuesdays and Men’s Night on Wednesdays have been well attended when the weather has been good, but there is room for more! The sessions start at 6.30pm and run until 8.30pm, with a charge of £4. All members are welcome to come along and try out the coaching tips in organised drills and then put them into practise with the match play that follows.
Club sessions – Friday Club Night & Sunday Club Afternoons
For old and new members, there are also our two regular club sessions.
Friday Club Night - On Friday evenings from 6.30pm there is chance to end your week with some relaxation on court. As one member recently described it “Great tennis, great fun, bar busy - and wraps now a popular regular with many!”
Sunday Club Afternoons - also on Sunday afternoons from 2pm, all are welcome to come and play in. Quite often there is a club match taking place for you to enjoy watching too.
Football crazy – Watch England take on Russia
The Euro 2016 Football Tournament kicks off in France later this month. We will be showing the first of England’s group matches versus Russia on Saturday 11th June on the big screen at the club.
Bar staff will be in place from 7pm on the evening for the build up to the match, so please come along to watch the match with others, enjoy a drink and bar snacks - and cheer on England on their quest to victory. It promises to be a good atmosphere.
Visitors
This is a reminder that visitors may be introduced to the club and can play up to 4 times in one year. They should be signed in to the book in the clubhouse, which is hanging up by the token machine. The £5 fee can be posted into the suggestion box, also by the token machine. If the clubhouse is locked, it should be put into an envelope & posted into the post-box on the clubhouse wall. Please save the embarrassment of having to be asked for your Visitor’s Fees. It is the responsibility of the member(s) introducing a visitor to ensure that any such guest complies with all the Club Rules. Please inform guests of clothing regulations before their visit.
Great British Tennis Weekend – Open Days
Over 75 people attended our two open days in May and as a result, several have signed up for coaching and membership.
It was great to see so many enjoying, for some, their first taste of tennis. Thank you to all those who helped make it such a successful event.
Summer camps
You will have hopefully received John’s coaching newsletter. Here is a link to the junior summer camps that will be held throughout the holidays.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers
Thank you to all those who brought along their Active Kids vouchers for the club. We collected 1,700 points to spend, which has allowed the coaches to order a wide range of equipment to complement their coaching.
Tournaments
If our own summer club championships have given you an appetite for competition, several local clubs hold open tournaments that you can enter.
Vicars Moor Open Tournament takes place on 2nd and 3rd July. This is an all-day open tournament. Round robin groups are drawn in advance, leading to a knock-out event later in the day to find the winners.
Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles are on Saturday 2nd July, starting at 9.30am. Mixed Doubles is on Sunday 3rd July, starting at 9.30am. Tournament organizer is Chris Bowden - chris@navigusplanning.co.uk; 07598 490697
Wimbledon
Many of you will have been enjoying the French Open and are looking forward to Wimbledon. This year the club received 21 pairs of tickets. Following our ballot, 19 of those were taken up by members who were lucky enough to draw them, with only 2 pairs being passed to those on the reserve list. We hope you all enjoy your experience!
