August Bank Holiday Tournament

Our final Bank Holiday event of the year will take place on Monday August 29th. As usual, this is open to all adult members (and juniors with adult status). It will start at 2pm. There will a £4 entry fee which will include afternoon tea. If you haven’t attended before, please come along to unravel the mysteries of an American Tournament!

Autumn Club Finals – Saturday October 15th

No sooner have our Club Championships come to a close than our thoughts turn to The Autumn Tournament. Entries can already be made on-line. The closing date is fast approaching…..Thursday August 18th!

As usual there will be a number of events running; Men’s singles, Ladies Singles, Men’s Doubles, Ladies Doubles and the Handicap Events – Men’s Handicap Doubles, Ladies Handicap Doubles and Mixed Handicap Doubles.

Please note; for the Men’s and Ladies doubles, you are assigned a partner.

All events are ideal for all levels, but the handicap in particular, so please join in. The bigger the entry, the better the tournament. Sign-up sheets will appear in the clubhouse soon, but you can already apply on-line.

Members are asked once again not to enter unless they know they are available to play on Finals Day. Also, if you are intending to go on holiday during September or October, please check with John Hall, who will make a decision as to whether you can enter.

Once again, the Mixed Doubles will take place as a separate one day event on the Saturday before Autumn Finals Day on Saturday 8th October.

Pie and Pint Evening

On Saturday September 17th we are holding another new event in the social calendar – a Pie and Pint Evening. This will include pool and darts competitions as well as the aforementioned pies and pints. More details will be in our September newsletter, but for now put the date in your diary!

Finals Success

Our Club Finals took place on 16th July. It was wonderful to see so many there supporting the players and the bar! Thank you to everyone who brought along food to share. It made it a really good day. Thanks also to Linda and Mike Searles for running the BBQ.

Congratulations to all our finalists and winners, but a special mention must go to Nicky Fenn who achieved the treble by clinching the Ladies A Singles, Ladies A Doubles (with Tina Bloch) and Mixed B Doubles (with Kyle Fenn).

‘Lofty Lofts’ Open Tennis Tournament

We had over 90 entries for our Grade 4 Open Tournament this year, with matches taking place throughout the week. There were some club successes in the Juniors events, with Kevin Benedict winning the Boys 9 & under and Hussein Ezzat runner up in the Boys 8 & Under.

In the Adult competitions, Luke Barker got as far as the Men’s Singles semi-finals and Nicky Fenn made it through to the Ladies Finals. Well done to all who took part.

For anyone who got a taste for competition, the Hertfordshire Closed takes place at Queenswood School from Sunday 21st to Saturday 27thAugust. Although primarily a junior tournament, it also has open age group events. Closing date is 10th August. Apply www.lta.org.uk quoting code HER16S6925.

Summer Camps

If your children need entertaining whilst honing their tennis skills, don’t forget to check out the weekly summer camps, run throughout the holidays by the coaching team. More details to follow in coaching newsletter.

Please make sure that you close the club gates, particularly if you are the last to leave.
