April 2017 Newsletter

Barnet LTC – April 2017 Newsletter

Here is the first newsletter of our membership year. If you are new to the club, then welcome!

Our newsletter goes out monthly to keep you up to date with all that is happening. You can also check out our website, http://www.barnetltc.com or join us on our Facebook page. In addition, a monthly diary of activities will be posted up in the clubhouse andis attached. This month’s edition is a bit of a marathon one, but please read through to the end so you don’t miss out!

Easter Bank Holiday Tournament

Our year kicks off with an American Tournament on Monday April 17th. It will start at 2pm prompt. Entrance will be £4, which will include afternoon tea. This is a play-in, social tournament for all levels, organised by the coaching team. It is an excellent way to meet other members if you are new to the club.

The Wimbledon draw will take place afterwards. Here is a final reminder that to be eligible you will need to be a member and have opted in. If you are quick, you can still pay online and be counted, but payment by cheque/cash can also be brought to the club house up until then. With 23 pairs of tickets up for grabs, you know it makes sense!

The lucky winners will receive an email generated by the LTA on behalf of the club.

Club Nights

With the start of the new season, our coach-led club nights once more come into play.  If you have not attended before, please do come along. It’s a great way to meet other members and receive some top tips from our coaching team.

Junior Matchplay Night - Fridays from 21st April, 4.30 to 6.30pm. This is supervised matchplay, and is appropriate for all ages from mini tennis red up to teenagers, but players must be capable of playing matches. It would be great to see some older juniors this year as well as the mini tennis players.

Ladies’ Night –Tuesdays from 25th April, 6.30 to 8.30pm. This will run for 8 weeks and is for ladies of all levels. A mixture of drills and matchplay. All female adult members (or juniors with adult status) are welcome.

Men’s Night – Wednesdays from 26th April, 6-30 to 8.30pm. This will run for 8 weeks, and is for men of all levels. A mixture of drills and matchplay. All male adult members (or juniors with adult status) are welcome.

Team Tennis

Our in-house competition has also come to an end. It’s been a close and well fought competition, but with only one point in it, this year the victorious team were The CardioJacks.

Thank you to all who participated, and to the captains for doing such a great job. The winning team will receive their medals on Club Finals day.

Club Championships

If all of this has inspired you, then please note that the closing date for our club Championships is April 20th. You can enter online http://www.barnetltc.com/tournaments/#club-championships

or by signing up in the clubhouse. Our Finals Day is on Saturday 8th July, so do not enter if you can’t play on this date or if you are away on holiday for a significant period during the run-up.

This year we are going to try to hold Junior Club Championships finals on the same day as the adults, rather than it being in the school holidays when some are away. Details on how to enter this will go out later as there are not so many rounds of matches to play as in the adult event.

Floodlight Booking

Even though the evenings are getting lighter, it is still possible to book floodlight courts. The booking sheets are in the shed by court 8. This will continue until the last week in April when club sessions begin. After that court 8 will be available to book on Tuesday and Wednesday nights for summer club tournament matches only. Please note that Friday night is club night so those turning up for social tennis take priority.

May Dates

We have a busy time at the beginning of May, so here are some items that just can’t wait until next month’s edition.

Margaret Littleford Cup

Taking place on Monday 1st May from 2pm, this is an annual event held in honour of one of our most popular members. It will be similar to an American Tournament but with a twist to it! Please come along to support it. Entry fee is £5, including teas. There will be a Raffle in aid of Children in Need. Donations of cakes, scones etc would be welcome.

Schools Tournament

On Thursday 4th May we are hosting a tournament for local schools. This is usually a busy event. It will start from 12pm but in order to set up, all courts will be unavailable from 11.30am. If you normally play on a Thursday morning, please try and start earlier, and the event organisers will do their best to let you play as long as possible. The competition will run until approximately 3pm but if you intend to play later, please allow time for the event to finish.

Pub Night -Saturday 6th May

Our next social evening is on Saturday 6th May, 7.30 start. Pub night at the club with a curry .... there will be organised games ; darts, pool , and table tennis  with lots of good music , all for a 'Fiva '.

Come and have some fun !

Keep it clean!

Finally, with the summer season approaching we will have lots of teams visiting from other clubs. Please make sure the courts and clubhouse are kept clean and tidy, so we can look our best for them and all our members.

Date for the Diary:

Great British Tennis Weekend – 13th and 14th May

Wishing all our members a Happy New Tennis Year!
