August Bank Holiday Tournament

Our final Bank Holiday event of the year will take place on Monday August 28th. As usual, this is open to all adult members (and juniors with adult status). It will start at 2pm. There will be a £4 entry fee which will include afternoon tea. If you haven’t attended before, please come along to unravel the mysteries of an American Tournament!

‘Lofty Lofts’ LTA Open Tennis Tournament

We had a record number of entries for our Grade 4 Open Tournament this year (over 150), with matches taking place throughout the week. There were some club successes in the Junior events. Tamara Kuti was the winner of the Girls 10 & Under, Kevin Benedict was runner up in the Boys 10 & under and Thomas Butler took third place in the Boys 9 & Under.

In the Adult competition, Stephen Williams won the Men’s Singles and Nicky Fenn made it through once again to the Ladies Finals.

Well done to all who took part.

We are very grateful to Dean Barker of Lofty Lofts, who sponsored the event for the third year running, and to all those members who volunteered their time to sell refreshments.

Autumn Club Finals – Saturday October 14th

No sooner have our Club Championships come to a close than our thoughts turn to The Autumn Tournament. Entries can soon be made on-line. In the mean-time, there are sign-up sheets in the clubhouse. The closing date is fast approaching; Thursday August 17th!

Autumn 1 Day Mixed - Saturday 2nd September

This year the Autumn 1 Day Mixed Tournament will be held on the earlier date of Saturday 2nd September, starting at 1.00p.m. Enter by e-mailing John Hall (JohnH811@aol.com). You can enter with a partner of your choice. If you have no partner but would like to enter you can write ‘Partner Wanted’ in your e-mail entry and John will match you up if possible. Please bear in mind that there is no guarantee of being able to find a partner so it’s much safer to find someone yourself!

New Autumn Junior Championships

Following the success of the Junior Club Championships in the summer, John Hall is introducing a new Autumn Junior Championships. The finals will take place on the same day as the adult finals (Saturday 14th October). Details of the qualifying rounds and how to enter will be available shortly. 

Summer Camps

Places are still available for John Hall’s summer camps for mini tennis and older juniors. These are not only great fun, but a way of improving quickly over a few days. Mixed Nights - Tuesday 12th September and Wednesday 20th September

We will be running 2 coach-led Mixed Nights in September. They will take place on Tuesday 12th September and Wednesday 20th September. There will be doubles drills and tactics with the coaches, followed by a mixture of mixed, men’s and ladies’ doubles - something for everyone! Mixed Nights will run from 7.00p.m. until 9.00p.m. (half an hour later than Men’s and Ladies’ Nights). The cost will be £4.00 per player. No need to book. Just come along.

As usual there will be a number of events running; Men’s singles, Ladies Singles, Men’s Doubles, Ladies Doubles and the Handicap Events – Men’s Handicap Doubles, Ladies Handicap Doubles and Mixed Handicap Doubles.

Please note; for the Men’s and Ladies doubles, you are assigned a partner. This year all doubles events (apart from handicaps) will be 2 sets and a match tie-break at 1 set all. This is to make Finals day a bit more spectator friendly!

All events are ideal for all levels, so please join in. The bigger the entry, the better the tournament. Members are asked once again not to enter unless they know they are available to play on Finals Day. Also, if you are intending to go on holiday during September or October, please check with John Hall, who will make a decision as to whether you can enter.

Summer Club Finals Success

Our Club Finals took place on 9th July. It was wonderful to see so many there supporting the players in our 18 finals. Congratulations to all our adult and junior finalists and winners. There were some closely fought matches. All results are available on our website page. There are also photos on our Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who brought along food to share. It made it a really good day. Thanks also to Mike and Linda Searles for running the BBQ.

Visitors

Those members who wish to bring non-members along for a game, please remember that they should be signed in to the visitor’s book (hanging next to the floodlight token box in the clubhouse) and a £5 fee paid (money box on r.h.s of token machine). If the clubhouse is locked then you can post this into the postbox on the clubhouse wall. A visitor may not play as such more than 4 times in one year.

AGM

One final date for you – our AGM will take place on Sunday October 15th.

After several years in the role, Sheila Rice will be stepping down as Bar Manager. If you think you could take on the position, please get in touch.
